The former Chief Technology Officer of Meta stated that AI will trigger a new wave of energy innovation.
Gate News bot report, according to Bloomberg, former Meta CTO and current climate risk investor Mike Schroepfer stated in an interview on the Zero podcast: "Energy acquisition has become a topic of discussion at the board level, which was not the case four years ago."
He mentioned: "If I cannot obtain energy, I cannot build the computing power I need. I cannot build data services and artificial intelligence models, and I may lose to competitors."
"You will see some big companies, like Meta, which just announced a geothermal agreement with XGS yesterday. This is their second geothermal agreement after Sage. Clearly, Google has also been doing the same deal with Fervo. Most hyperscale enterprises are purchasing contracts for nuclear fission power plants."
"Saying that I need more energy, or that I can provide energy at a better price, is fundamentally different from saying whether I can obtain energy. This determines whether my business can succeed, so I am willing to pay a higher price, and I am willing to take risks on new innovative technologies. This is a breakthrough, especially in the energy sector, which did not exist a few years ago. I am very excited about this, and I believe it is driving many new innovations."
