The BCH infrastructure financing plan has sparked controversy, with community divisions intensifying before the May upgrade.
As the date for the new round of technological updates for Bitcoin Cash (BCH) approaches, discussions within the community regarding the Infrastructure Funding Plan (IFP) are heating up again. With only one month left until the update on May 15, the Bitcoin ABC team's code still retains content related to the IFP, which has raised questions among many users.
In response to community concerns, the Bitcoin ABC team has recently launched a fundraising campaign for BCH protocol development. They plan to raise 14,500 BCH, approximately $3.3 million, to support subsequent development work. As of now, the fundraising campaign has reached 43% of its goal and is expected to continue until April 30. The outcome of this fundraising may directly affect the implementation of the IFP.
However, some users have expressed concerns about this approach. They question whether IFP will be implemented as an alternative if the fundraising target is not met by the end of the month. According to the business plan previously announced by the Bitcoin ABC team, if the fundraising fails, they may encourage miners to implement IFP, including allocating part of the block rewards to the development team.
This practice has caused dissatisfaction within the community. The chief developer of a light wallet stated that although the Bitcoin ABC team responded, the response was unsatisfactory. He believes that from Bitcoin ABC's statements, it seems they are using IFP as a bargaining chip.
Looking back at the situation in February this year, Bitcoin ABC proposed a plan to allocate 12.5% of the BCH block rewards to the development team, which caused great controversy. Subsequently, they adjusted this percentage to 5% and plan to implement it in the upcoming version 0.21.0.
Currently, there are still divisions in the community regarding the IFP. On one hand, some believe it could provide the necessary funding support for the continued development of BCH; on the other hand, there are concerns that this approach may affect the level of decentralization of the network. Nevertheless, as the update date of May 15 approaches, the BCH community will have to make a final decision on this issue.
