Musk accuses OpenAI of colluding with Microsoft to suppress XAI development: scamming more than 40 million yuan, Altman and Stripe are profiting themselves.
Elon Musk recently accused several founders and partners of OpenAI, including Microsoft, of engaging in unfair competition. Musk stated that these actions have harmed the development of his AI company XAI and has requested the court to intervene and apply for an injunction to suspend OpenAI's related activities.
Accusations that OpenAI is preventing investment, Sam Altman and Stripe are self-enriching.
Musk applied for a restraining order in the Northern District of California Federal Court in the United States, citing multiple allegations, including:
Suppression of competitors: Musk accuses OpenAI of pressuring other investors through Microsoft to not support OpenAI's competitors, including xAI.
Do not misuse sensitive information: OpenAI is accused of profiting from competitive information provided by Microsoft.
Changing the business model: OpenAI was originally a non-profit organization, but later transformed into a for-profit enterprise, which Musk believes violates the initial commitment to public welfare.
Self-dealing: Accusing OpenAI CEO Sam Altman of using his position to allow OpenAI to collaborate with companies in which Altman himself has a financial interest, such as choosing Stripe as a payment processor and profiting from it.
Musk's legal team warns that if these actions are not stopped soon, it will cause "irreversible damage" to the market and public interest.
Strongly criticize OpenAI for deviating from its original intention and colluding to monopolize AI development
Elon Musk was previously one of the co-founders of OpenAI, but in 2018, he was dissatisfied with the future direction of OpenAI and criticized it several times for deviating from its non-profit original intention. He then established his own AI company, xAI, and launched various services including the AI model Grok. However, Musk believes that OpenAI's behavior has hindered the development of xAI.
According to the Musk Legal Team, at least one major investor has withdrawn funding for xAI due to their participation in the OpenAI fundraising. In addition, the Microsoft and OpenAI collaboration is believed to involve illegal sharing of exclusive data, technology, and resources, violating the principles of fair competition in the market.
Musk was scammed more than 40 million pounds, OpenAI refutes unfounded
Regarding Musk's latest lawsuit, an OpenAI spokesperson responded that this is Musk's 'fourth unfounded accusation' and described it as 'exaggerated'. OpenAI had previously requested the court to dismiss Musk's lawsuit, as Musk claimed to have been cheated out of over 44 million dollars by OpenAI, but OpenAI stated that this has absolutely no legal basis.
But Musk's lawyer warned that if the court does not take action, OpenAI will be unable to complete its corporate transformation, potentially resulting in significant investor losses. According to previous reports, OpenAI is currently rapidly restructuring as a for-profit enterprise. If the transformation is not completed within two years, the recent financing of OpenAI may be converted into debt, and investors will have the right to withdraw their funds.
(OpenAI will become a for-profit organization and has begun discussions with California regulators)
