Gate Charity proudly joined as a key partner in the Smart Cities Hackathon, organized by FRIARE (Fondation Ratheil pour une Intelligence Artificielle Responsable et Efficiente), which took place from April 5 to April 19, 2025, at Epitech Benin Cotonou. Enabled by Gate Charity, the event united multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative and responsible approaches for transforming African cities into sustainable and resilient smart cities. Participants addressed critical urban challenges by integrating artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other emerging technologies, while carefully considering ethical, social, and legal implications. Multidisciplinary teams of two to three members collaborated to develop their solutions and present fully functional prototypes. Industry experts served as mentors, offering insights on smart city challenges, technical guidance, and ethical considerations. A panel of jurors evaluated each submission based on feasibility, innovation, and ethical responsibility, ultimately recognizing the most promising projects with the potential for real-world impact.

The hackathon encouraged creativity and innovation to address specific urbanization issues, promoted interdisciplinary collaboration for responsible AI-driven urban solutions, and provided a dynamic platform for building functional prototypes with real-world applications. With Gate Charity’s involvement, the most promising and feasible solutions were recognized, rewarded, and positioned for future implementation.
